Dr. Vincenzo Di Marzo's projects

Dr. Di Marzo and his team are passionate about the various biochemical mechanisms by which commensal microorganisms and host cells communicate, how these mechanisms are disrupted under pathological conditions affecting the control of metabolism and behaviour and the extent to which they are mediated by endocannabinoid-like molecules.

Projects

  • Role of the endocannabinoidome-gut microbiome axis in anxiety and pain (Guida et al 2018., Guida et al., 2020).

  • Role of endocannabinoidome signaling in neuroprotection, addiction, pain, inflammation and skeletal muscle development (Cristino et al., 2020; Piscitelli et al., 2020; Petrosino et al., 2019; Ferrara et al., 2019; Petrie et al., 2019; Ligresti et al., 2019; Donvito et al., 2019; Iannotti et al., 2018).

  • Pharmacology and potential therapeutic use in inflammatory, metabolic and neuropsychiatric disorders of non-euphoric plant cannabinoids: emphasis on cannabidiol, cannabidivarin, tetrahydrocannabidivarin, cannabigerol and their acid precursors (Iannotti et al., 2019; Stark et al., 2019; D’Aniello et al., 2019; Zamberletti et al., 2019; Alalawi et al., 2019; Pagano et al., 2019; Fellous et al., 2020; Gamelin et al., 2020).

  • Study of the potential deleterious effects of excessive perinatal CB1 receptor activity on brain development (Cinquina et al., 2020).

  • Orexin-endocannabinoid interactions in food-intake and obesity and its complications (Imperatore et al., 2018; Tunisi et al., 2019).
